Home of the gods
The world tree Yggdrasil stands tall.
At the roots of this mighty tree
From the well of Urd
The Norns shape all worldly fate.
Carving the sacred runes

From his throne in Asgard, Odin watches from afar
Envious of their wisdom
Hungry for knowledge of the stars
He pierced himself with his spear.
He hung himself from the world tree.
Falling deeper into the abyss
Death not be feared

With his life slipping on the edge of death
Wisdom will be his soon!
Hanging there for nine whole days and nine whole nights
He calls out to the runes!

Odin's sacrifice! Unto himself
From the depths of the cosmos
These runes are ours to use.
A gift for all mankind
From the All fathers sacrifice!
Oppression's grip is doomed.
Behold the sacred runes!

Through the suffering near the end
The runes appear before him.

Elated he shouts with glory

He truly grew and thrived.
